Centennial celebrations: Three-day Faiz Mela from Nov 18
'This year has been termed the Year of Faiz, not only by the people but also the government.'
KARACHI:
We are expecting people like Indian actors Naseeruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Professor Musheer ul Hassan and Naomi Lezard, the first American woman to translate Faiz’s work, to attend the three-day Faiz Mela, announced Rahat Saeed, who is the secretary for the Karachi Faiz Centennial Celebration Committee on Friday.
“This year has been termed the Year of Faiz, not only by the people but also the government.” While talking at a press conference held at the KDA officers club, Saeed said that they had organised events to celebrate a hundred years of Faiz all over the world, including countries like Germany and Sri Lanka.
He added that while visiting India this year, he found out that the president of India had also organised events to remember Faiz. According to Saeed, the Faiz Mela will kick off on November 18 and will continue till November 20. He added that they had to postpone the event because of Eidul Azha. The three-day event is set to take place at the KDA officers’ club. Nearly 80 stalls will be set up to showcase Faiz’s work. Poetry recitals and seminars will also be held.
