Twitter alert

Express July 17, 2010

Twitter has become a rage among celebrities and this week it played an important role in bringing together two living legends - Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan.

Unable to meet frequently because of their commitments, the two met sporadically at functions and public events. But now, there is no lack of connectivity between Big B and Lata. So delighted was Bachchan to find his favourite singer on the micro-blogging site that he said, “The most gratifying moment on Twitter came when I got to interact with Lataji.”

The singing legend reciprocated by saying, “I am really happy to connect with Bachchan saab through Twitter. I must admit it feels good to be in touch with him again.”

“I don’t know if they know this, but I’m very fond of the Bachchans. I’m most grateful to both Amitji and Jayaji for always showering me with their love and affection. I’m glad I got an opportunity to connect with Amitji and the parivar through Twitter.”

Bringing celebrities closer, however, is not the only thing Twitter can do. In his tweet, film critic Rajeev Masand called Akshay Kumar a “jackass” after Kumar’s visit to an ailing cartoonist. But it didn’t go well with Amitabh Bachchan, who protested and posted a message on his page.

In the Twitter race, AR Rahman has hit a million-follower-mark. “Thank you for your continued support and love. Happy to see that we have more than one million friends here. Love you all for being with me,” the musician tweeted.

We present a round-up of the best celebrity tweets of the week.

It is the joy of communication that keeps me up late. Open Twitter and you feel like spending a lifetime there. Maybe we already are.
