LHC petition: PML-N, PTI banners come under scrutiny

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed says court wants to know which political party followed the law and which did not.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought an explanation from the Punjab government as to why Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were allowed to campaign for their upcoming rallies in Lahore, Express 24/7 reported Thursday.

The order was issued during the hearing of a petition alleging that political party banners were placed without paying a fee to the Pakistan Horticulture Authority.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed said the court wished to know which political party followed the law and which did not.

The petition was filed by Rana Muhammad Azeem, president of the Punjab union of journalists in the LHC, asking the court to ban political rallies in Lahore.

Azeem had accused the political parties of littering Lahore’s main business avenue Mall road with political banners, hindering business for shops along the road.

The PML-N and PTI have their rallies lined up in the city on October 28 and October 30, respectively.
