What kind of government do we need?

LAHORE:
This is with reference to Tazeen Javed’s article “What kind of government do we need?” (July 16). I’d like to highlight a few flaws in the writer’s arguments. First, Ms Javed draws a general conclusion from a specific premise by arguing that just because Islamic theocracy did not work in the past, it can never work. And then she points to the problem of selective memory, discounting the fact that the ‘golden era’ wasn’t deemed perfect in every sense. It’s remembered because the Muslims were united, and a force to be reckoned with.

Moreover, the writer wrongly correlates theocratic government with the failures of the present government. The writer should read more about different religions to understand the way they have  contributed to law and civilisation.
