Snooker: Yousuf, Perwani crash out of championship

Asif records snooker event’s highest break so far.

KARACHI:
Former amateur world champion Mohammad Yousuf and Naveen Perwani crashed out of the third Jubilee General Insurance Ranking Snooker Championship while top-seed Imran Shahzad, second-seed Sohail Shahzad and former Asia number two Mohammad Sajjad advanced to the prequarter-finals.

Yousuf beat Sultan Mohammad 4-1 but his earlier losses in the tournament put him out of contention. Meanwhile Perwani went down to Shahid Aftab 4-2.

Lahore-based Imran overcame Imran Qamar 4-2 while Sohail entered the next round after beating Rashid Mehmood by the same score-line. Sajjad handed a straight-frame defeat to Sharjeel Mehmood to cruise into the knockout stages.

Mohammad Asif had a day to remember as he recorded the tournament’s highest break so far. Asif beat Mohammad Imran 4-1 and hit a break of 138 in the second frame.
