Cricket: Elias makes a Sunny debut in drawn Test
Left-armer grabs seven for Bangladesh against West Indies.

Bangladesh’s Elias Sunny made a superb seven-wicket debut against the West Indies in the rain-hit opening Test, which ended in a draw on the fifth and final day.
The left-arm spinner grabbed six for 94 in the first-innings and one for 34 in the second as the West Indies finished at 100 for two after being set a 226-run target in 37 overs. Opener Lendl Simmons made 44, while Kirk Edwards (28 not out) and Darren Bravo (24 not out) were the unbeaten batsmen when play was called off. No play was possible due to rain on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunny became the third Bangladeshi to bag six wickets in an innings on debut as the West Indies were bowled out for 244 in their first-innings in reply to Bangladesh’s 350 for nine declared.
The hosts declared their second-innings closed at 119 for three, with Shahriar Nafees (50) scoring his sixth Test half-century.
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was happy at the highly encouraging show his team had put on.
“I was happy with how we batted,” he said. “A lot of positives in the game, but our batsmen need to stay on after getting starts. We’re very confident ahead of the next match.”
