Webber clears air with Red Bull

Webber said that he met Red Bull boss to resolve any lingering tensions that remained after the British Grand Prix.

SILVERSTONE:
Mark Webber has said that he has cleared the air with Red Bull after the team was accused of favouring Sebastian Vettel at the British Grand Prix. Webber said that he met Red Bull boss Christian Horner to resolve any lingering tensions that remained after the British Grand Prix.

Webber said, “We’ve debriefed and have cleared the air. The respect within the team extends to the drivers. Vettel and I are not enemies. We’re just two drivers pushing hard.”

Mark Webber, who won the British Grand Prix despite Red Bull controversially taking off a new front wing off his car before the qualifiers to give to Sebastia Vettel, said after the race, “Not bad for a number two driver.” The Australian later added he would not have signed a new contract with Red Bull had he known there would be an element of favouritism against him.

But Webber added that the comment was made in the heat of the moment. “Of course things get said which, with hindsight goggles on, probably shouldn’t have been said,” added Webber.

“Formula One is a highly charged and fiercely competitive arena where emotions and adrenalin do run high from time to time.

“My comment on the radio after the race was an example of Australian sarcasm, either at its best or worst depending on how you choose to take it.”
