Vindictive in-laws suspected of ‘neutering’ man for eloping
Family plans to register FIR for attempted murder and abduction.
HYDERABAD:
At around 10 am on Monday morning, the Qasimabad police received a frantic phone call from a landlord in Junejo Colony. He complained that his tenant was making a lot of noise, as if he were in a lot of pain.
By the time ASI Manzoor Jamali got there, 24-year-old Sajjad Pathan was bleeding profusely. The ASI and his team immediately took Pathan to Civil Hospital, Hyderabad where Dr Idrees Qureshi tried to save him. Luckily he was able to save his life, but the young man’s private parts were not as lucky. They were severed from his body six hours before.
According to Pathan’s older brother Shahzad, his brother was paying the price for eloping with a girl named A two years ago. Pathan used to work in a hair transplant clinic when the two fell in love and ran away. Shahzad said that the girl’s family was displeased with the marriage. He added that her family lived in Karachi but was actually from Tando Adam in Sanghar.
“After they got married Sajjad and A lived with my parents in Tando Thoro, Hyderabad,” he said. “Their relationship with A’s family improved eventually and they went to visit them some three months ago.” Shahzad claims that Sajjad’s father-in-law Ghulam Hussian Buriro and brother-in-law Sarwan Buriro were to blame. He added that A and her one-year-old son Ayan were also missing.
“After the first visit three months ago, Sajjad’s in-laws started visiting them quite frequently at their house in Junejo Colony,” he said. “I believe that they had plotted to do this all along.” He was quite upset and added that this would not have happened had his brother still been living with their parents. Pathan’s friend Aqil Samo said that he had warned his friend about becoming overly familiar with his in-laws. Samo is a very close friend of Pathan’s and was one of the few to know about his elopement. “It seemed very fishy to me from the beginning, once Sajjad started meeting up with his in-laws frequently, he just forgot about his family,” he said.
Another friend of Pathan’s, Syed Karam Ali said that Sarwan Buriro had been staying with the couple for two to three days before the incident. “Sajjad told the police that four men, including Sarwan, had assaulted him and had taken away his wife and son,” he said. “It has been over five hours since Sajjad was brought to the hospital but his in-laws have not visited or made any sort of contact - it just goes to prove that they were behind this.”
Shahzad said that they would register an FIR against the in-laws for attempted murder and abduction but no case was registered when this report was filed. Pathan’s in-laws were not available for comment.
