Basement and two floors to open in the first phase.

RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi’s first parking plaza at Fawwara Chowk in Raja Bazaar would start operation next month, said Director General (DG) Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Monday.

He informed that building work of the parking plaza is near completion and it would soon be opened for public. He said that the project is being completed at a cost of nearly Rs20 million which will certainly mitigate the problems of the motorists who visit the busiest and the oldest bazaar of the town.

DG RDA giving the credit of the project to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, said that the CM took keen interest for the construction of the parking plaza in Rawalpindi which was a long-standing demand of the public. The parking plaza constructed on 4.5 kanals of land will have a total of five stories and a basement. It is located in the heart of the city at the crossing of Liaquat Road and Jinnah Road near Fawwara Chowk.

To a question, the head of RDA said that the basement and two floors have been completed in the first phase of the project, while the next three floor will be constructed in the next phase. He said, basement of the plaza would be used as a public service vehicles’ stand while upper floors would be used for parking purposes. “RDA will generate an income of over Rs 10 million annually from this project,” he said.

The DG further informed that the plaza would have parking capacity of 240 vehicles while there would also be a stand of nearly 120 public service vehicles in the basement.
