Young doctors at the Civil Hospital Karachi threatened to take drastic measures if the Sindh government did not increase their salaries in accordance the notification issued by the finance department.



While talking at the Karachi Press Club on Saturday, the Civil Hospital Karahchi Young Doctors Association president Dr Ambreen Zaidi said that on June 4 Sindh Chief Minister, Finance Minister and Sindh Health Minister had said that the postgraduate doctors in Sindh will be given the same salary as the doctors in Punjab. She added that a notification was issued from the Sindh finance department on July 20, which stated that the salary of postgraduate doctors would be increased to Rs42,500 through a unification policy with Punjab.

According to Dr Zaidi, there are 500 postgraduate doctors at the Dow University of Health Science who work at Civil Hospital but their salaries have not been increased as yet. “We have contacted the university management but have not heard back as yet,” she said. “The university’s vice-chancellor told us that they do not have any funds and have written to the finance department.
