‘Jalib’s killing can lead to civil war’
QUETTA:
Political leaders from Balochistan have strongly condemned the murder of Habib Jalib, warning that it could trigger a civil war in the province.
Senator Lakshar Raisani, chief of the Balochistan chapter of the PPP, said that “some hidden elements are trying to destabilise the province for their nefarious designs.”
He said Jalib was a political worker and elements opposed to the parliamentary system in Pakistan are involved in his killing. “It’s a challenge for the government to bring his killers to justice,” he added.
National Party leader Hasil Bazenjo described Jalib’s killing as part of a series of political assassinations in Balochistan. Lives of political leaders and supporters are not safe, he said, adding that the province is gradually lapsing into a civil war.
BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal said that target killings of Baloch leaders continue unabated in the province. He equated the situation with that of former East Pakistan.
He said Jalib had no personal enmity but he was not in the good books of the government and its agencies.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan National Party (BNP) has convened a meeting of its Central Executive Committee on July 21 to discuss its future strategy following the killing of its central leader Habib Jalib.
Speaking at a news conference at the Karachi Press Club, BNP’s acting secretary general Jehanzeb Baloch, former MNA Abdul Rauf Mengal and other leaders demanded that an FIR be registered against the Balochistan corps commander, ISI and MI chiefs, head of the Frontier Corps and police chief.
