LAHORE: The appointment of District Coordination Officer Ahad Cheema has been challenged in the Lahore High Court. Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique said in his petition that Cheema, an officer of grade 18, had been appointed to a grade 20 post, which was a violation of Section 26 of the Local Government Ordinance 2001. He asked the court to set aside Cheema’s appointment as DCO and order action against him. He also asked for a stay order on Cheema’s appointment elsewhere till the case was decided. The petitioner appeared to blame Cheema for protests by students after glitches in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education computerised results system, saying the new system was put in place when Cheema was education secretary. He also accused Cheema of negligence in response to the dengue outbreak, saying his lack of action “caused hundreds of deaths”.
