Missing Persons’ Case: SC warns govt to pay compensation
This is the second time the apex court has directed government to pay compensation to the families within one week.
ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court has warned the government of ‘consequences’ if it fails to pay compensation to families of missing persons within one week. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan heard a number of petitions filed by relatives of missing persons. During the course of hearing, Interior Secretary Siddiqui Akbar submitted that the government needed more time to pay compensation to families of missing persons in accordance to the court’s direction. Justice Jawad S Khawaja, warned the secretary interior of consequences in case of non-payment of compensation to aggrieved families.
This is the second time the apex court has directed the government to pay compensation to the families within one week. The court adjourned further hearing till October 26.
