LAHORE:

As Eid approaches, Lahore’s fashion designers have begun exhibiting their Eid collections. Ayesha Khurram, a newer designer has already established herself with her unique embroideries and styles. Embellishing her outfits with zippers and figurative art, Khurram’s latest collection derives inspiration from the work of Faiz Ahmad Faiz.

“As winter is approaching I have mainly used Kurandi so as to give the collection a warmer feel,” says Khurram, “zippers and badges are in fashion this season and therefore you will find these elements recurring in the collection.”

Her chiffon shirts carry pigeons, lotus flowers and embroidery. There are also replications of Sadequain paintings and Andy Warhol’s screen print of Marilyn Monroe.

Her evening wear collection includes chiffon shirts in solid colours embellished with badges. “It is very hard to get through to the youth but surprisingly my collections have attracted a younger clientele,” continues Khurram, “I want to make a name for myself for being unique rather than just producing a pretty outfit.”
