Liquor update: Death toll rises to 14
Another man identified as Babu Kharai died from consuming poisonous liquor.
KARACHI:
Another man identified as Babu Kharai died from consuming poisonous liquor, bringing the official death toll at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to at least 14. MLO Dr Manzoor told The Express Tribune that at least six other people are still admitted at the poison control centre. Police sources claim that the toll from the Chanesar Goth incident is as high as 27 since many families did not bring the victims to the hospital and preferred to bury them immediately. At a press conference on Thursday, SSP Javed Odho said that so far only 11 were dead. “We have caught six gangsters involved in selling the illicit liquor, including Arshad, Gul, Simon, Babar and Nabeel,” he said.
