KARACHI:

With help from our members and friends, we have set up four relief camps in Sanghar and Tharparkar, said Arts Council of Pakistan President Ahmed Shah. “We have also help set up a medical camp near Tando Bago to help deal with the outbreak of diarrhoea and skin diseases.”

While talking at a press conference at the Arts Council, Shah said students from the Art Council’s institute of arts and craft had organised a telethon with the help of a television channel which had helped to raise funds for the relief goods.

He added that he was grateful for all the support given by the city and provincial government. This led the Karachi DCO Roshan Ali Shaikh to announce that the City District Government Karachi and Arts Council would be hold a peace festival in the city.

They plan to organise a mehfil-e-mushira and qawwali in order to gain the trust of the people in the city. The DCO added that the basic idea behind the festival was to provide the citizens understand one another and learn to own their city. “The festival will be held in the areas most affected by the violence such as Jheel Park, Lyari Football Stadium, Katti Pahari, and Sacchal Goth,” he said. “We also plan to start a mural campaign on the flyovers which will help get rid of the graffiti.”

Towards the end of the press conference, the DCO said that Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had approved a bill to give 500 acres to the Arts Council and increase their budget from one million rupees to three million rupees.
