Waste Management: City govt, others ordered to file reply
a petition challenging conversion of the SWM into a private company
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notice to the chief secretary, the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department and City District Government representatives to reply to a petition challenging conversion of the SWM into a private company, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC). The court ordered them to reply within two weeks. Former federal minister for minorities J Salik had filed the petition saying appointment of administrators following an amendment in the Local Government Ordinance is illegal. He said privatisation of SWM into a new company was in violation of labour laws and also of the Local Government Ordinance.
