UN council seat: UAE promises support to Pakistan

PM appreciates the generous assistance of the UAE government during natural calamities in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended its support to Pakistan for its candidacy for a United Nations Security Council non-permanent seat.

UAE Ambassador Essa Abdulla Al Basha Al Nuaimi called on Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani at the PM House on Wednesday and discussed a number of issues ranging from flood-relief efforts to bilateral trade.

Gilani said Pakistan was looking forward to becoming a member of the Council of Gulf Countries for promoting the cause of peace, stability and prosperity in the region. The PM also appreciated the generous assistance of the UAE government during natural calamities in Pakistan, including the 2005 earthquake, last year’s floods and the aftermath of the rains in Sindh by providing relief  items and supporting rehabilitation.
