Taseer estate: One set of siblings takes other to court

Amna, Shehrbano, Shahbaz, Shehryar, sued by Shaan, Sanam and Sara.

LAHORE:

A civil judge has sought a reply from Salmaan Taseer’s widow Amna and their children Shahbaz, Shehryar and Shehrbano for October 21 on a suit filed by Shaan, Sanam and Sara Taseer, the late governor’s children from an earlier marriage.

The petitioners have asked the court to take account of all the moveable and immoveable assets of the deceased and to divide it among his heirs according to Sunni traditions. They claimed that the respondents, as well as former employees and business associates of Taseer, were trying to conceal some assets in order to deprive his legal heirs of their inheritance.

The petition said that Taseer was a very successful businessman who owned assets within and outside Pakistan, including shares in various public and private companies.

The petitioners said they had called on the respondents to make a division of the deceased’s estate in accordance with the law and Sharia, but they had been ignored. “They are being forcibly and unlawfully kept out of possession and enjoyment of their legitimate inheritance shares in the estate of the deceased and pilferage, misappropriation and concealment of the estate of the deceased is continuing,” said the petition. They asked the court to take account of Taseer’s assets, to administer them by decree, to restrain the respondents from concealing assets, and to divide them. They also asked to be allowed to deal with scheduled properties or other parts of the Taseer estate in the same manner as the other legal heirs until the case is decided.
