World Bridge Championships: Inconsistency continues to plague team

Pakistan draw against Japan, lose to South Africa in Bermuda Bowl.

KARACHI:
Pakistan continued their inconsistent form on the fourth day of the Bermuda Bowl World Bridge Championships when they drew against Japan but lost to South Africa in Veldhoven, Holland yesterday.

The team had concluded the ninth round of the event on a high note when it defeated Australia 23-7 on Tuesday night. However, it lost its focus in the 10th round as South Africa won a close match 17-13.

Pakistan followed up with a 15-15 draw against Japan to finish the 11th round of the event with 137 Victory Points (VPs).

The national team has won three matches in the event so far. Pakistan needs 340 VPs to qualify for the quarter-finals and they still have 10 more matches to play to ensure a place in the knock-out stage.

Pakistan is currently ranked 19th at the tournament after 11 rounds, while Italy is leading the event, followed by Holland Israel in the second and third positions.
