Aisam’s father in hospital with dengue

Qureshi is recovering, is stable according to doctor, says wife.

Tennis star Aisamul Haq’s father, Ihteshamul Haq Qureshi, is suffering from dengue fever and is under treatment at a private hospital in Lahore.


Aisam’s mother Nosheen Qureshi told The Express Tribune that her husband was recovering from the disease and that he was stable according to doctors who were treating him at the hospital.


Meanwhile, nine people died of dengue fever in the city on Tuesday taking the death toll in Lahore to 219 and in the province to 247.

As many as 308 people were diagnosed with the disease over the last 24 hours. The total number of people affected by the disease has increased to 17,522.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed that the Institute of Public Health should be transformed into a centre of excellence in research in epidemics, according to a handout issued by the director general public relations. He was speaking at a meeting called to discuss the restructuring of the institute to make it more vibrant and active in providing public health facilities.

Members of Provincial Assembly Dr Asad Ashraf and Dr Saeed Elahi, secretaries of Health and Finance Departments and vice chancellors of the King Edward Medical University and the University of Health Sciences were also present on the occasion. Planning and Development chairman Javed Aslam gave a briefing on the restructuring of the institute on the occasion.
