GHQ meeting: Army briefs about national security, military operations

Development of a coordination mechanism on Pak-Afghan border was also discussed.

RAWALPINDI:
The Senate and National Assembly Standing Committees on Defence and Defence Production was given a security briefing at the Army Auditorium, General Headquarters (GHQ) on Tuesday.

The meeting, which lasted for around three hours, was attended by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and parliamentarians assigned to the committees.

Director General Military Operations, Major General Ashfaq Nadeem briefed the meeting, which was followed by a session of questions and answers.


The main issues discussed during the meeting were related to national security and the ongoing military operations in the FATA. The situation in Balochistan also came under sharp focus.

Kayani also discussed issues related to the defence budget.

Development of a coordination mechanism on Pak-Afghan border, owing to tensions caused by cross-border attacks, was also discussed.
