Suspects arrested after shootout, large cache of weapons and ammunition seized.
KARACHI:
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh Police on Tuesday arrested three suspects accused of extorting money for the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in Karachi.
The suspects were arrested after a shootout and a large cache of weapons and ammunition was seized from them.
SSP Raja Umar Khattab said that the suspects were caught red-handed from the Timoria area.
He said the suspects had already extorted money from 46 traders and industrialists, and that they were working for the TTP’s Qari Shakeel Group.
The three suspects have been identified as Gul Wali, Hazrat Ali and Ameer Zada.
Earlier this year, police arrested three alleged members of the TTP along with a ‘target killer’. The three TTP suspects —Alamzaib alias Noor Shah, Hassan Dar alias Sheena and Inamur Rehman — were arrested during a raid in Orangi Town’s Sector 10-1/2.
The police claimed that the suspects belong to TTP’s Abu Mansoor group, which is based in Swat.
Sindh Rangers have launched a helpline, 1101, to facilitate citizens and to improve law and order situation in Karachi. The purpose is for citizens to immediately report, on the given number, if they notice the presence of criminals, extortionists, target killers or suspicious elements carrying weapons around their work place or residence.
