KARACHI:

Surgeons at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have agreed to go back to operating after days of refusing to perform procedures over a lack of a sustainable back-up power supply.

The green signal came after assurances were given by the provincial health secretary and the Karachi Electric Supply Company for an uninterrupted power supply from 8am to 2pm, a press statement read.

PMC owns three 1,000 kVA each generators, two of which need repairs. In their place, two rental generators have been plugged in to keep the crucial functions of the hospital running.

However, according to a member of the steering committee, the rental generators are unable to take the load of all the necessary functions required during an operation.

There are over 15 operation theatres at JPMC.
