Petitions: ‘Ombudsman’s decisions’ of no value
LHC declared all decisions by the office of the federal ombudsman from November 2010 onwards as having no value.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Monday declared all decisions by the office of the federal ombudsman from November 2010 onwards as having no value.
Justice Mansoor Shah issued the order while hearing three petitions seeking implementation of orders issued by the ombudsman’s office. The judge was informed that consultants were issuing orders since November 2010 as the office of the ombudsman was vacant.
The ombudsman secretariat’s secretary Brig (retd) Shamshad, a consultant, appeared before the court. Representatives of the ombudsman’s officer and Brig Shamshad tried to convince the court that in absence of the ombudsman they were authorised to issue orders. After hearing the arguments, the judge held that all orders passed by the consultants in absence of the ombudsman were illegal and of no value.
However, the petitions filed by Capital Steel and others are still pending.
