Teach For Pakistan is a movement working to expand educational opportunity.

KARACHI: We need to talk! At least 20 million Pakistani children should be in primary school right now. But one-third of these children have never seen the inside of a classroom.

The “Teach for Pakistan-Start the movement” video starts off with these alarming facts. The video further sheds light on the reality of school dropouts. Out of those 20 million children, few manage to enrol in a school, and many drop out early on because they don’t find school interesting. Some skip school because there are no teachers.

Here is where Teach for Pakistan comes in.

Teach For Pakistan is a movement which asks young and educated Pakistanis to commit two years of their lives to teaching at under-resourced schools across the country and to become lifelong leaders.

Teach For Pakistan is part of Teach For All, an international network of 20 independent social enterprises that are working to expand educational opportunity. The people behind this idea aspire to the vision that one day every child will have equal opportunity for excellent education.

The video puts forward two possible scenarios. One is about children dropping out of schools because they are not motivated enough to stick around and end up being worthless. While the other scenario speaks volume about the importance of a good, motivating teacher and that a teacher can prevent children from leaving schools, which in return will save Pakistan’s future.

The video asks young people “to teach, to change lives – for a better future and to be a part of the solution. “

Video rating: Two thumbs up for giving a direction to Pakistan’s educated youth!
