Karakoram International University: CM vows to resolve university issues
Announces uninterrupted power supply, metalling of roads in the university.
GILGIT:
Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Chief Minister (CM) Mehdi Shah on Saturday assured the Karakoram International University (KIU) administration that his next meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari would solely focus on the issues being confronted by the university administration.
“I am aware that the university is faced with a multitude of problems and I am sure the president will not turn down my requests,” said Shah while addressing the Third Annual Appreciation and Award Ceremony at KIU on Saturday.
Students who performed well in their academics received certificates and cash prizes during the ceremony. The students also entertained the guests, comprising government officials and parents, by arranging singing and dancing performances.
The minister said that the university is still in its infancy stage and needs support to achieve its long-term goals. For this purpose, he approved KIU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Najma Najam’s demands for uninterrupted power supply and metalling and paving of roads in the university.
Earlier, the VC said the university was facing a shortage of equipment, buses, buildings and scholarships due to lack of funds, adding that a portion of the university’s land had been encroached upon by local people.
