Several political workers formally joined the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday.
ABBOTABAD:
Several political workers, among them Naseer Khan Jadoon, a key leader of the Sooba Hazara Tehrik, or Movement for Hazara Province, formally joined the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday.
They made the announcement at a function organised at a hotel in Abbottabad. Attendees included Saif Yar Khan and Iftikhar Rindhawa, members of the central executive committee of the MQM.
Naseer Khan Jadoon is a former secretary of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik and president of the United Traders’ Federation. He played a leading role in the movement for a separate Hazara province after the NWFP was renamed Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa through the 18th constitutional amendment. Speaking at the function, Jadoon said the MQM was the only political party which truly represents the lower middle class.
“After the 2005 devastating earthquake, MQM’s central leadership not only helped the affected people but also participated in relief and rescue operations,” Jadoon said. He added that he would not accept any office in the party and would not contest election till the creation of a separate Hazara province. Jadoon alleged that the state machinery was used by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government to suppress peaceful protests in favour of Hazara province, killing several innocent people.
