Taseer estate: Amna seeks transfer of all cases to one court

Suits filed by ‘second widow’, three children pending in civil courts.

LAHORE:

District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed on Thursday issued notices for October 15 to two daughters and a son of Salmaan Taseer, as well as a woman who claims to have been his wife, on a petition by his widow Amna Taseer seeking the transfer to one court of all cases regarding his estate.

Amna Taseer said that a woman named Ayesa Bukhari, who claims to be Taseer’s widow, had filed two “false and frivolous” suits in the court of Civil Judge Rai Muhammad Naeem Kharal. In one, which named Amna, Shaan, Sanam and Sara Taseer as respondents, she sought to be declared a legal heir to the late governor. In the other, she sought grant of a succession certificate for Taseer’s property.

Shaan, Sanam and Sara Taseer have also filed a suit against Amna seeking partition of his assets which is pending before Civil Judge Waseem Ahmed. Amna said that the three had “deliberately concealed” the proceedings from the other court, which amounted to perjury.

She asked that all the cases be clubbed together and handled by the district and sessions court, as this would save time and be convenient for all sides. The judge directed the civil courts to restrain from passing final orders and issued notices to Taseer’s daughters and son and to the woman identified as Ayesha Bukhari.

The latter, who refers to herself as Ayesha Taseer, said in her suit that she had contracted a nikah with Salmaan Taseer on June 29, 2004.
