New Anarkali Police: Man released from illegal detention
Arrested in possession of 50 liquor bottles, case registered in the daily diary in pencil.
LAHORE:
The district and sessions judge on Thursday released a person on a personal surety after a bailiff recovered him from illegal police detention.
A man named Asif had filed a habeas corpus petition alleging that New Anarkali police had illegally detained his relative Humayun and his driver. The court sent bailiff Imtiaz Nasir to investigate.
Nasir found the two detainees at the station. Policemen there told him Humayun had been arrested in possession of 50 liquor bottles and his arrest had been registered in the daily diary in pencil.
But his driver was not mentioned and the bailiff ordered his release. He told the police to produce Humayun in court on Friday.
