Beach Games: Pakistan’s impressive run continues

Bag six medals to take beach games’ tally to seven.

KARACHI: Pakistan clinched another six medals at the first South Asian Beach Games underway in Hambantota, Sri Lanka to take their total to seven, a day after the kabaddi team won gold.

Mohammad Sajjad bagged a gold medal in the windsurfing open heavyweight event while Raja Qasim Abbas Rathore won the mistral lightweight event. Haroon Bandyal and Munawar finished first in the equestrian lance and sword event followed by Chaudhray Rashid and Shahbaz Khan, who bagged a silver medal. Pakistan also bagged two bronze medals after the team finished third in the life saving board race and life saving beach relay events.

Meanwhile, the men’s handball team defeated Afghanistan 2-0 in the first round. The team took the opening set 25-11 before prevailing 18-17 in the second. Pakistan had earlier outclassed Nepal in their opening match.
