Mangla Dam raising project, worth Rs101 billion, is soon to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

The monumental Mangla Dam raising project, worth Rs101 billion, is soon to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, according to AJK premier Chaudhry Abdul Majeed. The expansion project will substantially alleviate the massive electricity shortage in the country, the premier added. In addition to laying the foundation for the dam raising scheme, the premier will also inaugurate AJK’s largest bridge – the Dhan Galli Bridge – over the Jhelum River. Majeed said the national exchequer would receive revenues worth Rs25 billion from the usage of the dam scheme. He assured people living close to the project site that they (Mangla dam affectees) would be given first preference in government jobs.
