House finance: Loans of quake victims written off
Outstanding loans, amounting to Rs916 million, were written off.
KARACHI:
Victims of the devastating earthquake six years ago in 2005 received long awaited relief as House Building Finance Company Limited (HBFCL) distributed ownership and title documents to the borrowers who were affected by the earthquake. Outstanding loans, amounting to Rs916 million, were written off by the company and properties were transferred to nearly 5,000 affected customers. On the sixth anniversary of the earthquake, Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh handed over ownership documents to a small group of legal heirs of the victims and owners of damaged properties. Meanwhile, HBFCL officials have started door-to-door distribution of ownership documents in earthquake-affected areas.
