Vice Chancellors: Special bench to hear appeals

A special bench will be set up to hear appeals challenging the dismissal of petitions against the appointment of vice chancellors at six public universities. A division bench of the Lahore High Court headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Monday adjourned the case as one of its members, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, had already recused himself. The chief justice said that a special bench would be set up to hear the matter and adjourned the hearing till October 20. Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh had on June 24 dismissed petitions challenging the appointments of six vice chancellors and questioning the search committee’s selection. Dr Hassan Shah, Dr Yousaf Hayat, Dr Shaukat Ali and Dr Maqbool Sial filed the appeals.
