Football: Worthington set to resign

Northern Ireland’s hopes of qualifying ended after Friday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Estonia.

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington confirmed that he will step down as manager after the team’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Italy today. Northern Ireland’s hopes of qualifying ended after Friday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Estonia. “I feel it’s only right to give the association and players the opportunity and time to move forward, so I have decided that this game will be my last in charge,” said Worthington.
