KARACHI:

Fuzon’s vocalist Rameez Mukhtar

I am in tears; I can’t believe that the maestro is no more with us. I was a die-hard Jagjit fan. Every ghazal that he sang is a lesson for me. I took inspiration from Jagjit — he was my icon, “Kaghaz Ki Kashti” is my favourite ghazal.

The Sketches vocalist Saif Samejo

When I was a child, my father used to listen to Jagjit Singh and now that I am a musician myself, I also listen to him. I had more of an emotional attachment to the maestro because whenever I listen to his ghazals, I get goose bumps — only he is capable of doing that. His death is a loss for the world.

Musician Ahsan Iqbal

He was the only ghazal singer to have such a huge impact on the youth with perfection. His heart-breaking ghazals and compositions were a part of my childhood as well as my teenage years — this was the beauty of Jagjit. What I learnt from him is how to create your own style and present a rich piece of art.

Singer Abbas Ali Khan

It is one of the saddest losses to ghazal music. I, along with many family members and friends, was an avid Jagjit fan. My brother , whose voice is quite similar to Jagjit’s, is so sad and we’re now planning a tribute to the maestro. He is truly irreplaceable.

Saddened to know ‘The Ghazal King’, Jagjit Singh is no more. ‘Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho’, this song makes me misty-eyed, especially today. RIP Jagjit Singh.

May God give peace to Mr Jagjit Singh’s soul. He was the king of poetry and soulful music. He will certainly live in our hearts forever.

Actor Anupam Kher

Jagjit Singh’s death is a personal loss. His music was soothing and healing. It had a direct connection with the heart. He was not a showman, he was very down-to-earth. His music connected effortlessly.
