Dengue: Shahbaz orders survey of water tanks

200 diagnosed, one dies from dengue in city in last 24 hours.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday directed the officials concerned to conduct a survey of water tanks in the city to identify and eliminate breeding sights. 

He was speaking at a meeting held to review measures to control the spread of dengue fever. Several members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, secretaries of various departments, and members of the Indonesian experts’ team attended the meeting.

Sharif said training should be arranged for doctors employed at private and trust hospitals to ensure proper treatment of dengue patients admitted in those hospitals. He said according to several surveys conducted by government officials majority of dengue mosquito breeding sites were in and around the godowns of used tyres. He directed officials to ensure no such godown was left out of the spray and fogging campaign. He said ceramic shops and junkyards should also be sprayed with anti-mosquito insecticide. Sharif said chairmen of all town committees should regularly visit all hospitals and review cleanliness and medical facilities over there. He directed officials to finalise arrangements and immediately start distribution of the anti-dengue kits.

One more dies of dengue 

One more death from dengue fever was reported in the city on Sunday taking the death toll to 195 in the province of which 176 were reported in Lahore.

As many as 200 more people were diagnosed with dengue fever over the last 24 hours. Of these, 186 were diagnosed in Lahore hospitals.
