2005 EARTHQUAKE: ‘Govt deceiving people on relief’

“establishment of ERRA in the presence public sector departments is just an attempt to hoodwink people,” said Khan.

ABBOTABAD:
The affected families of the 2005 earthquake are struggling for survival despite the lapse of six years. This was said by Tehreek-i-Haqooq-i-Hazara Chief Ali Asghar Khan while criticising the government for its failure in rehabilitation and reconstruction of quake-hit areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). In a statement issued here on Sunday, Khan said that the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) claimed to have completed 36.31 per cent of projects in education sector, 52.94 per cent of health projects, 60.52 per cent of projects in transport and 13.33 per cent social welfare projects. However, he asserted that all the figures were exaggerated, while the government had completely failed to alleviate the sufferings of the victims. “The establishment of ERRA and other such bodies in the presence public sector departments is just an attempt to hoodwink people,” said Khan.
