Excellence: Rootsians shine globally

Students of Roots School System DHA-I Campus won several medals in the International Commonwealth Essay Competition.

The students of Roots School System DHA-I Campus won several medals in the International Commonwealth Essay Competition 2011, setting a precedent for others to follow.


The students won two gold medals, four silver medals and six bronze medals in the competition, participated by over 6,500 students of Commonwealth countries.


Neha Omair and Fatima Taj received gold medals, while Zahra Uzair Qureshi, Fahad Shaiq, Abdullah Rashid and Zainab Rafique won silver medals.

Apart from that, Raja Hamza Khan, Shazrah Hashim, Taimoor Ishtiaq, Nehal Nadeem, Salman Javed and Faraj Tahir Khan won bronze medals in the competition.

Neha, the only gold medalist in the 10-12 age group, wrote her essay on ‘A day in the life of…’ in which she portrayed the life of a middle-aged woman during the 2005 earthquake.

The Royal Commonwealth Society in London has been running this contest since 1883, inspiring thousands of young writers across the globe to participate and have their voices heard.
