
Gujranwala Commissioner Saeed Wahla said on Thursday that peaceful protest was the right of every citizen, however, no one would be allowed to attack, burn and damage public property.
He was speaking at a meeting held at Sialkot DCO office to review the law and order situation in light of the recent protests against power outages. Gujranwala Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ahmed Mubarak Ahmed, Sialkot DCO Mujahid Sher Dil and Sialkot DPO Bilal Sadiq Kamiyana were present in the meeting.
As many as 83 people arrested during protests against power outages were released by Gujranwala police on Thursday.
In Sialkot, Naikapura police registered a case against 200 unidnetified people for vandalising the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) grid station this Monday. The case was registered on in-charge grid station Kamran Butt’s complaint.
An initial assessment of the damage done to the Gepco grid station has estimated the damage at around Rs120 million. Gepco staff has started removing debris from the site.
Protests against unscheduled power outages continued across the province on Thursday.
