Arsenic contamination in the drinking water of various areas of Punjab and Sindh has emerged as a major health concern. In the attempt to battle this, Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) developed household and community-level filters to remove arsenic, microbes and turbidity.
Senator Malik Salahuddin Dogar and members of provincial assembly Syed Mujtaba Gilani and Malik Aamir Dogar distributed 800 such filters at a ceremony on Thursday.
The natural occurrence of arsenic in groundwater constitutes a setback in safe drinking water to millions of citizens in Asia. Arsenic contaminated water is the cause of many diseases, including various types of skin diseases, digestive system disorders and kidney problems.
