District govts to transfer accounts to Sindh Bank
50 branches to be opened in province by year-end.
KARACHI:
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday directed all district coordination officers (DCOs) to transfer and maintain accounts of district governments with Sindh Bank.
He also directed them to furnish within 24 hours details of accounts being maintained by the district governments up to June 30. “Strict action will be taken against the departments which will fail to provide correct information,” he said.
Shah issued the directives while reviewing progress and achievements of Sindh Bank, formed by the provincial government, at the CM House.
He said if a new department was set up, its accounts would be opened in Sindh Bank only, adding accounts of Sindh Revenue Board and Sindh Excise and Taxation Department would be kept with Sindh Bank.
Besides, he said reserves of Endowment Fund, GP Fund and Pension Fund would be deposited in Sindh Bank.
Shah expressed hope that the target of opening 50 branches of the bank by the end of 2011 would be met ahead of time and another 50 branches would be opened across the country by June 2012.
Giving a briefing on the bank’s performance, its President Bilal Shaikh said so far 35 branches had been opened in the province and 15 more would be in place soon.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Finance Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch and other officials.
