27,000 tons of imported urea arrive
Further 52,000 tons coming next week that may ease shortage.
KARACHI:
A ship carrying 27,420 tons of urea, imported by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), arrived at the Gwadar Port on Wednesday, which was part of a series of shipments booked to tackle fertiliser shortage and stem price rise in the domestic market.
According to TCP, one more vessel carrying 52,066 tons of urea is expected to arrive at the Gwadar Port on October 10. The two shipments are in response to the TCP’s tender awarded to Transammonia AG, Switzerland on August 22.
In the wake of decisions taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet, TCP said it had imported 610,000 tons of urea in the current year to meet domestic demand. Of this quantity, around 220,000 tons have been supplied by Saudi Basic Industries (SABIC), under the Saudi Fund for Development credit facility and the remaining 390,000 tons have been imported through international tenders.
Transportation of imported urea from the port and its subsequent marketing and sale are being handled by the National Fertiliser Marketing Limited (NFML).
