Staged Encounter Case: Petitioner to file rejoinder to IG
The IG said that the police were ready to order an investigation conducted by an officer of the rank of DIG.
LAHORE:
The Punjab Police inspector general told the Lahore High Court on Wednesday that the police had no objection to a fresh investigation of an incident in Nishtar Colony earlier this year in which a suspected robber in police custody was shot and killed. Justice Khalid Mahmood asked the petitioner, the mother of one of the constables accused of involvement in the staged encounter, to file a rejoinder to the IG’s response to the petition and then adjourned till October 13. The IG said that the police were ready to order an investigation conducted by an officer of the rank of DIG. At this, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the matter could not be re-investigated as a challan had been submitted in court. Petitioner Seema Bibi, mother of Constable Asif Bhatti, says that senior officers were responsible for the extra-judicial killing but they were trying to pin the blame on subordinates like her son.
