Consumer Court: Transporter summoned over damage to books

A consumer court on Wednesday issued a notice to the director of a goods transport company for October 21 in a petition seeking payment of Rs1,077,030 in compensation for alleged damage caused to 265 books.
Complainant Shakeel Mumtaz, proprietor of Mumtaz Academy, said his customer in Bannu had refused to purchase the books sent through New Pak Mushtarka Mehmand Goods Transporter Company on August 19.

Malik Fahad, the director of transport company, told The Express Tribune that the truck carrying the complainant’s consignment had overturned on Sargodha Road and that the company was not liable to compensate anyone as it was an accident.
