Locals in the district protested after the police refused to take action against an alleged rapist on Wednesday. Gate Gali Hamam Wali resident Yasin’s married daughter was raped by Shahbaz alias ‘Shaba’ at her house.
“A couple of people chased after him but he still managed to flee. We told the police that it was Shahbaz but they still refused to file a case,” said a neighbour Haroon. Police officials said that a case had been registered against Shahbaz but there wasn’t enough evidence. “It was never a question of evidence. The police threatened us not to take the case up. They fired outside our house to keep us quiet,” Yasin told reporters. Locals in the area protested against the police for several hours and blocked Ghanta Ghar Chowk.
