Flood Relief: So far 0.1m cards issued: NADRA

NADRA has issued 110,000 Pakistan Cards to the heads of rain-affected families.

KARACHI:

The National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued 110,000 Pakistan Cards to the heads of rain-affected families in Sindh, said deputy chairman Tariq Malik on Wednesday. Each card has Rs20,000 which will be given in two equal installments of Rs10,000. NADRA has set up 31 centres so far to issue and process the cards in nearly all major flood-hit districts. Additional sites are going to open soon in Tando Muhammad Khan and Sanghar. “We are working with the PDMA and Sindh government to speed up the process,” he said. The relief aid beneficiary list is validated by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority which is registering the families with the help of district administrations. NADRA is ensuring there is transparency in the cash disbursement because it is using an Automated Fingerprint Identification System & Facial Recognition System. He advised only the heads of the families should visit the centres. Anyone who has lost or sold their cards by mistake can contact their banks to block the card and get a new one with their identity card. NADRA is also processing duplicate cards to those who lost them in the floods, and new computerized national identity cards for those who never had one. It has so far processed about 9,161 CNICs.
