Pakistani men are divided on marrying within or outside their family, with around 40% stating they prefer to marry within the family, revealed a recently released Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan.

In the survey, a nationally representative sample of men from across the country were asked the following question:
Will you prefer proposal inside your family or from outside family?

Responding to the question, 40% of the men answered with ‘Within the family’, 32% said they preferred marrying ‘Outside the family’ and 22% said it made ‘No Difference’.

The recent survey was conducted from September 18 – September 24, 2011 among a sample of 1,508 men of various age groups in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country.

Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.

Marriages not just between cousins but double cousins are common and preferred in Pakistan and Muslim world. Is has done an irreparable harm to our society both mentally and physically. We do not have top class athletes like the marathon runners of Africa who barely get much to eat and run bare feet. How many top scientists have more than a billion Muslims producing? How many top athletes a billion plus Muslims are producing? We are going against scientific principles and these weddings must be banned the sooner the better.

Marraige between first cousins should be banned in Pakistan. Marraige between second cousins should also be banned if their parents were first cousins - I mean if they have any common great grandparent.
