Radio frequency: Traffic police, PEMRA told to settle dispute

Traffic police plea challenges shifting of their channel’s frequency.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the Traffic Police and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to settle their dispute over the frequency of the traffic radio channel by October 28.

The traffic police filed a petition challenging PEMRA’s shifting of their channel’s frequency from FM 88.8 to FM 88.6. Inspector Sajjad Mahdi told the court that PEMRA had unilaterally decided to change the frequency without even informing the traffic police. He said the traffic police did not have enough money to advertise their new frequency.

A PEMRA representative told the court that the authority had changed the frequency on the request of the Kohinoor group, which had complained that their radio channel was being disturbed by the channel at FM 88.8.

After hearing both sides, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed asked them to resolve the issue amicably by October 28, failing which they would have to accept his decision on the matter.
