Court Order: NAB to release Sharif family’s assets
Sharif family's assets and share certificates were confiscated following conviction of Nawaz Sharif in 1999.
LAHORE:
A Lahore High Court (LHC) bench ordered the anti-graft body on Tuesday to release the assets of the Sharif family which were seized on a court’s orders.
Headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the LHC divisional bench issued the order while disposing of seven appeals filed by the Sharif family against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The court told NAB to return shares worth Rs100 million, prize bonds worth Rs115 million and documents pertaining to land in Murree, Chaudhry Sugar Mills, Hudabiya Engineering Services, Hamza Shipping Corporation, Ramzan Sugar Mills, etc.
The court observed that NAB had no authority to seize any citizen’s property after they were acquitted in cases. The counsel for NAB informed the court that all properties were seized on the directives of the federal government back in 2001. The Sharif family had appealed the court contending that the NAB was not releasing their properties.
